Big Heart

Now retired from a long career with a leading investment firm in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, Lee Chimerakis focused on consulting with professional athletes and coaches. In his charitable work, Lee Chimerakis has recruited volunteers for an annual Thanksgiving meal prepared by the Big Heart Brigade of South Florida.
The agency serves people in need, such as soldiers who have been wounded, first responders who lack mobility, and persons with low incomes. Continuing a 26-year tradition, the Big Heart Brigade fed tens of thousands of families facing economic challenges in 2018. The group packaged some 50,000 meals, using some 1,800 turkeys and 23,000 pounds of green beans.
Volunteers began preparations the week before Thanksgiving. They spent hours cooking and boxing food and shipping it to distribution centers. About 5,000 volunteers contributed their time and energy and the Palm Beach Gardens fire department donated work space for approximately 3,500 people. A 2017 pilot program paved the way for the big meals.
Additionally, the group provided volunteers to prepare and transport 3,500 meals for victims of Hurricane Michael, the category five storm that ravaged the Florida Panhandle on October 10.
